Business Oregon Grant Will Help Baker City Pizza Dough Maker Add 20 Workers

Tasty Bake, Inc., has been making pizza dough and bread sticks for the food service industry in Baker City since 1982. The company's production has grown more than 400% since that time and it now distributes its products to schools, supermarket delis, restaurants and retail outlets in 11 western states, southwestern Canada and Asia.

In early 2010, the company decided to consolidate its ownership and prepare to expand its production. A $100,000 loan from the Oregon Business Development Fund coupled with private bank financing helped the company meets its need for operating capital. The company occupies 25,000 square feet of production, freezer and office space in Baker City.

In December 2010, the company received a $50,000 BOOST grant to allow it to expand its workforce by 20 employees to meet increased demand for its products. Tasty Bake now employs more than 60 workers.

The BOOST—Building Opportunities for Oregon Small Business Today—grant program awards and makes grants as an incentive to Oregon businesses that create new, full-time jobs in Oregon. Applicants must be businesses with 100 or fewer employees, must create and retain new full-time jobs for a period of at least 6 months, must be a traded-sector business in manufacturing, processing or distribution, and must demonstrate that comparable wages are provided to their employees.
