Signature Research Centers

Oregon InC has selected three Signature Research Centers (SRCs) as one of its primary investments since its beginning. These SRCs work directly with Oregon's four research universities in a partnership designed to commercialize the R&D being created on campus, support the commercialization of R&D in the private sector, and increase the collaboration and capacity of the state's universities. The SRCs were selected because the industries in which they operate were seen as those where Oregon has innate advantages and are potential high-growth sectors in the future.

The Centers

Oregon Nanoscience & Microtechnologies Institute (ONAMI)

ONAMI is where academia, business, and government come together to accelerate research and bring breakthrough ideas to market. It's where entrepreneurs have access to cutting-edge resources and investors have opportunities to fund groundbreaking technology. ONAMI pulls it all together with opportunities for collaborative research, access to seven technology labs at Oregon's top research universities and a commercialization program that provides critical, early-stage funding and business counsel. ONAMI Technology Labs include seven facilities at Oregon's top research universities with unique access to cutting-edge instruments, researchers with deep expertise in materials characterization and fabrication, and opportunities to collaborate and solve problems.

Results since ONAMI's founding in 2006 include:

  • More than 260 jobs
  • ~$400M investments and revenues by portfolio companies as a return on less than $10M of ONAMI funding provided to these companies
  • 58 commercialization projects

Oregon Translational Research & Development Institute (OTRADI)

OTRADI fills the gap between research and commercialization by providing resources and expertise found nowhere else in Oregon. OTRADI was initiated in 2007 with a mission to translate scientific research developed in Oregon's research laboratories into commercial ventures. OTRADI operates Oregon's only nonprofit collaborative bioscience discovery laboratory, as well as the state's first and only bioscience-specific incubator.

OTRADI has a network of more than 80 BioMentors who are available to provide pro-bono advice and assistance to promising life science entrepreneurs across Oregon. OTRADI's BioMentors have valuable expertise in a wide range of business topics that are integral to the success of early-stage life science companies, including business plan development, locating funding, IP protection, product development, and regulatory/FDA engagement.

Since 2008, OTRADI's portfolio companies have
