Mobile Workshop—Toledo and Newport Sites

Sunday, April 29, 2018 • 3:00 - 6:30 pm

This 3.5-hour mobile tour will highlight a handful of Lincoln County's brownfields challenges and successes as it explores sites in Newport, Toledo, and along the Yaquina Bay and River. Two sites—the Port of Newport's International Terminal and the Port of Toledo's Boat Yard—were completed in different ways, for different outcomes with each experiencing unique challenges. While in Toledo we will learn more about the Port of Toledo's Waterfront Park, home to Port's annual Wooden Boat Show that takes place every year during the third weekend in August, and we will met a representative of the Confederated Tribes of Siletz Indians to learn about their redevelopment plans for a former lumber mill located on the Yaquina River that closed in 1997. As the tour makes its way back to Newport from Toledo you will learn about the King Salvage property recently acquired by Lincoln County through tax foreclosure. Finally, once back in Newport we'll pass by some privately redeveloped properties; and, time permitting, stop for a cone at BJ's Ice Cream Parlor.
