Business Oregon Helps Oregon Wineries Succeed at German Trade Show

Four Willamette Valley winemakers netted tens of thousands of dollars in new European sales thanks to export assistance from Business Oregon.

In early 2013, Business Oregon Global Trade Specialist Alexa Hamilton connected Ponzi Vineyards with IBT Partners, an international trade and business services consultant, to provide market research and key contacts prior to their trip to Europe.

Business Oregon then provided Ponzi and three other wine producers— Stoller Vineyards, Firesteed Cellars Winery and Adelsheim Vineyard—with State Trade and Export Promotion (STEP) grants totaling $6,178 to help the defray the wineries' costs of attending the ProWein trade show in Germany in March 2013. In addition, Business Oregon provided the Oregon Wine Board a STEP grant of $5,000 to help the board and the four wineries travel to Copenhagen prior to the German trade show for an event promoting Oregon wines.

As a direct result of Business Oregon's efforts, the four wineries realized export sales to European customers of more than $57,000 within three months of the German show.
