Business Oregon Helps Start New Industry for Oregon

Business Oregon helps Frog Eyes Wasabi become the first commercial wasabi grower in Oregon, and one of the few such farms in North America.

Frog Eyes Wasabi produces extremely high quality, flavorful, genuine wasabi. The wasabi farm is located on the Oregon Coast where the climate is optimal for wasabi cultivation. Profitable in its first year, the farm is well on its way to making its name by gaining the attention of Iron Chef Masaharu Morimoto, who used the farm's wasabi in a 2011 taping of Iron Chef America.

The farm also is doing its part in supporting the community by purchasing its supplies for operations locally when possible and hiring local labor for harvesting. Wasabi is a crop that is labor intensive and requires the hiring of contract laborers for harvesting. The farm's first harvest was in the spring of 2011.
