Higher education institutions

The diversity of Oregon's people is reflected in its educational institutions, providing undergraduate liberal arts and sciences curricula, specialized two- and four-year professional and technical training, and a wide range of graduate studies. Oregon is a net importer of high-quality college students with an enrollment of more than 12,000 out-of-state students.

Oregon University System
The Oregon University System is comprised of seven universities under the control of the governor-appointed State Board of Higher Education. In addition to the institutions' principal mission—instruction—they perform important agricultural, high technology, research and other public services.
Portland State University
Portland State University, Oregon's only urban university, is the largest and most diverse in the state system. Portland State offers more than 100 undergraduate, master's and doctoral degrees, serving more students and conferring more master's degrees annually than any other Oregon university.
University of Oregon
The University of Oregon (UO), Eugene, is a comprehensive teaching and research university that provides students a top-quality education in the liberal arts, sciences, social sciences and professions.
Oregon State University
Oregon State University (OSU), located in Corvallis, is a Carnegie Doctoral/Research-Extensive university. Respected for its teaching, research and public service, OSU is the only land-, sea- and space-grant university in the Pacific Northwest.
Southern Oregon University
Southern Oregon University (SOU), in Ashland, is a contemporary public liberal arts and sciences university that is regionally responsive, nationally recognized and internationally engaged.
Western Oregon University
Western Oregon University offers more than 40 bachelor's and master's degree programs through its College of Liberal Arts and Sciences and College of Education. The Division of Teaching Research is nationally recognized for its research leading to innovative new methods in teaching and learning.
Oregon Health and Sciences University
Oregon Health and Sciences University (OHSU), located in Portland, includes the state's premier academic health center. Through its schools of medicine, dentistry, nursing, and science and engineering, OHSU educates more than ,600 health and high-technology professionals, scientists, environmental engineers and managers.
Eastern Oregon University
Eastern Oregon University (EOU), LaGrande, is a nationally recognized leader in distance learning, providing educational services from 16 statewide distance learning centers to students throughout Oregon and across the country.
Oregon Institute of Technology
Oregon Institute of Technology (OIT), located in Klamath Falls, provides computer-intensive, industry responsive curricula, and is the only accredited public institute of technology in the Pacific Northwest.
Community colleges
Oregon's 17 community colleges serve more than 77,000 students a year and are an integral part of the post-secondary education system. Community colleges are responsible for providing technical job-related training to a large portion of Oregon's labor force. Developed in cooperation with local employers, community college programs are state-of-the-art.
