Business Oregon provided a $1 million dollar loan to help leverage dollars for construction of the rail line that was the single most critical element for Southport Lumber Company to remain in the Coos Bay area.
The Oregon Investment Advantage applies to companies located within urban growth boundaries (UGB) of cities with populations of 15,000 or less or any industrially zoned site inside a county. There are 111 Oregon cities where businesses that locate a facility inside the city's urban growth boundary may receive Oregon Investment Advantage income tax exemption (subject to certification criteria). This exemption is granted without regard to zoning codes or the type of activity or operations in which the firm is engaging for the first time in Oregon. (Elsewhere in eligible counties, facilities must be located on industrially zoned land and be engaged in a traded-sector industry.)
