Business Oregon and Twelve Oregon Outdoor Companies Work the 2018 OutDoor Show in Germany

This week Business Oregon and twelve Oregon companies wrap up an outdoor gear trade show in Friedrichshafen, Germany. The 25th OutDoor Show takes place June 17-20, and is one of the world's leading outdoor gear trade events, attended by manufacturers, distributors, retailers, and other outdoor industry trade professionals. The event concludes a broader business mission to Germany which included partners from Prosper Portland.

"Creating opportunities for Oregon companies to enter new markets and grow revenues back home has had a huge impact on the businesses we've worked with," said Business Oregon director Chris Harder, who participated on the mission. "We've also been working to attract foreign investment from Germany back in to Oregon as well, taking advantage of the time we have here in Europe."

As part of the agency's strategy to grow small- and medium-sized businesses, Business Oregon works with companies to introduce their products in new foreign markets. The global strategies team at Business Oregon provides expertise on how to get started, and then can combine that technical assistance with financial assistance through a matching grant program.

Using funding received from a U.S. Small Business Administration State Trade Export Promotion (STEP) grant Business Oregon was able to provide export assistance to the following companies to attend and market themselves at the show.

  • Cilogear, Portland, manufacturer of climbing packs
  • COAST, Portland, manufacturer of knives and multi-functional tools
  • DrinkTanks, Bend, stainless steel growlers
  • Fix n Zip, Oregon City, innovative zipper repair kits
  • Flipside Hats, Portland, designers of eco-efficient headwear and accessories
  • Gobi Gear, Bend, design and develop multi-chamber of packing sacks
  • Hydaway, Bend, producers of reusable, collapsible drinking bottles
  • NW Alpine, Portland, design and produce mountain sportswear
  • Pistil, Hood River, designing fashionable and functional headwear and accessories
  • Showers Pass, Portland, waterproof functional clothing
  • SiliPint, Bend, design innovative silicone drinkware

In the previous eight years, the companies attending with Business Oregon have reported more than $41 million in expected sales as a result of participating in the OutDoor Show.
